Vinyl Roll Banners: The Basics

Vinyl Roll Banners Being Unrolled

It’s possible that the ideal signage solution for your event may be vinyl roll banners. This alternative to the plastic roll banner offers its own unique advantages and could be the perfect answer for your event.

No Plate Fees, No Color Limits

Our plastic roll banners are flexo-printed on low-density poly and have a minimum print run of 3,000 linear feet. Vinyl roll banners, on the other hand, are digitally printed on 10-ounce vinyl and have a minimum print run of 50 feet. This means that you will not have to purchase the plates used in flexo-printing (which average $295 per color) but also you’re free to design much smaller in order to meet your specific needs.

Vinyl Roll BannerPrinting digitally and having zero plate fees also means that you’ll have no color limit to your designs. You can print full color up to 600 dpi, which means that your banners will be sharp, precise and pixel perfect.

Design Flexibility & Control

In addition to zero plate fees, digital banners offer an infinite amount of design control. With digital printing, your message, image, logo, and design concepts can vary and change without any additional cost to you. Whether you’re testing designs or still fine-tuning your logo, digital printing means that you don’t have to commit to any singular concept. You have so much flexibility with vinyl, in fact, that you’re able to alternate different logos, text or graphics on any portion of your entire banner. We can also print photographic images on vinyl roll banners.

Durability & Quick Turnaround Time

The vinyl roll banner could also be called the Many Uses, Many Times Roll Banner because of its unbeatable durability. The 10 ounce scrim vinyl will hold up over multiple uses, and the inks are UV solvent, so they can be used indoor or outdoor.

No plates also mean no set-up time (or set-up fees), which means we can get your order printed and in your hands very quickly! It generally takes only 2-3 days from the time you sign off on a proof to get your banner shipped (depending on the  order specifications). This is in comparison to 3 weeks for plastic roll banners.

So if the combination of zero plate fees, unlimited color capabilities, variability, re-usability and quick turnaround appeals to you, give us a call at 800-231-4213. We will be happy to answer your questions! You can also check out our website at www.northcoastbanners.com

Size Matters: Height To Width Ratio Tips For Roll Banner Designs

Size matters. The height to width ratio of your banner is important, never take this consideration lightly when you design your banner!

Make certain that the ratios and proportions of your banner design are in harmony. If you are designing a banner in which the proportions of the logo are wider than they are tall, then opt for a rectangular banner to accommodate the logo and the attendant text. Don’t attempt to squeeze it all in on a square banner, because this will force you to use smaller letters.

What’s more, the lessened ratio of letter size to banner size will diminish the banners’ capacity to project your message.

POP Your Roll Banner With Colors!

There’s a lot of thought that goes into the colors on every banner. At Northcoast Banners, we always maintain that the best color schemes are ones that ensure that your roll banner POPS into the eyes of viewers. Most importantly, observers who aren’t focusing on your banners will catch sight of your banners if you make sure it quite literally POPS into their eyeballs!

Choose powerful and contrasting colors to grab your audiences eyeballs. The key is to choose colors that contrast with each other so the design POPS! If you’re committed to using dark combinations, like red ink against a dark blue “knockout,” it’s best to outline the edge of your letters in white.

This stroking technique allows for the distinction between the colors and will attract your audience’s eye — or, as we like to say, this will POP your banner!

Roll Banner Visibility Tips And Tricks!

Did you know that in most cases, the more visible your banner is from distance, the better it is for your visibility?

You must always ask yourself, “How far away will the banner be from the viewer?”

For instance, if your banners will be on the front of a stage or at a radio remote, the banner design must be large enough to be viewed by the audience beyond the front row. Also keep in mind that the viewer may be walking by and will need to distinguish your message while in motion.

How Many Roll Banners Do You Need?

When looking to order plastic roll banners, always remember that the size of the run makes a big impact on your bottom line. Generally speaking, the smallest run length that will still justify the run is 3,000 linear feet.

Behind the 3,000 feet figure for a minimum run is a simple equation that justifies our ‘hands-on’ set up time. Set up time to mount printing plates, install PMS matched inks, un-mount plates and clean up the press, hoses and ink stations stack up to thirty minutes per spot color. With the press running at approximately 450-500’ per minute, the minimum print run is 3,000 feet or 6-8 minutes of press time.

That means that unless you need upwards of 1,000 banners, you’ll get much better bang for you buck if you go for vinyl roll banners. Plastic roll banners are flexographically printed on low density poly, whereas vinyl roll banners are digitally printed on 10 ounce vinyl. A minimum print run for vinyl roll banners, by contrast, is just 50′!

Full Bleeds, Halloween Costumes, And Plastic Roll Banners

With all the vampires, werewolves, shifters and fairies lurking in the shadows in the advent of Halloween, you would be justified for thinking that Full Bleeds is just another reference to blood-suckers and Halloween horrors.

But at Northcoast Banners, full bleeds has a markedly different connotation.

Here’s how it works. Ideally, your banners should set the content fully inside a white margin, or, inside the ‘live area.’  The gap remains between the live area, or the edge of the printing plate and the edge of the poly (at the web) or the plate gap (at the repeat). We prefer 1/2” to ¾” gap on all sides of your roll banner design.

When design flaws occur with design elements protruding into the margin beyond the live area, we will work with the designer to eliminate the flaw.

‘Full bleeds,’ therefore, is a reference to designs that require no gap between instances of banners, or no white margin on all four sides.

At Northcoast Banners, we print full bleeds on a case-by-case basis. When you submit your artwork, we will trim the outer edges of roll banners by allowing for at least 1” of margin space to ensure a safe and accurate trim that will elegantly complete your banner.
